Crazy guy + O’Reilly book = Church Shooting?

Article here

Sorry about the really short, quick, generalized post, but I have to be at work very soon, but read on:

According to the above, the shooter in the Knoxville Unitarian Universalist Church had the following books: “Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder” by radio talk show host Michael Savage, “Let Freedom Ring” by talk show host Sean Hannity, and “The O’Reilly Factor,” by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly.”

Now, I’m not about to say that books or any other medium will make someone go out and do something this horrible, but I’m posting this to let people know that Bill O’Reilly is a huge propronent of telling people that playing video games makes kids go kill people; reading books make people act the way the book’s written, etc – so I’m wondering when (if ever) this topic will be approached as an issue on his show. I’ll kill some brain cells and put on FAUX News after work tonight and talk about it when it’s over.

I haven’t read those books, but I doubt that they tell anyone to go out and shoot liberals.

  2. I think you’re missing the point here; I’m trying to show that, if I remember correctly, 8ill O’Reilly came quickly after Columnbine and reported the shooters played Quake II, then went on to smear the video gaame industry because people were playing an ‘evil game.’
Im wondering what he’ll say about a mentally ill individual reading his book after a tradgedy such as this. I’m sure he won’t smear himself.

  3. That is a very insighful look at our culture of violence. I think you are onto something here. The question is if video games insight violence among our youth, will books do the same among our population? I’m having a Fahrenheit 451 moment here…

On a final note O’Reilly isn’t going to bash himself either. You have that pegged. It’s funny how easily people are to judge material present in video games but the minute it comes to resouces that include them they will probably whistle another tune. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander…right?
